Kenya
Imagine faithfully saying 'yes' to God knowing that it means leaving affluence and moving to a stench-ridden slum with over 300,000 people!

That's what Nairobi natives Dr. David and Ann Kitonga did. It's hard to describe the deplorable stench and condition of Kawangware slum: garbage, sewage, and filth - everywhere. The Kitonga's are truly a light in the darkness of despair and hopelessness. David and Ann have a heart for the poor and are making a difference in the Kawangware slum. Global Outreach Development has supported their ministry work in Nairobi, Kenya for 3 years. The Kitonga's provide job training to adults so they can feed their families and they feed and educate over 700 children. While the children learn to read and write, they also learn that God loves and cares for them.

The Kawangware slum of Nairobi, Kenya is also where your team can partner with the Kitonga's in helping the 300,000 people living everyday in this slum.

The people you will meet will challenge you and your team to be more giving, more loving, more caring, and more generous with the resources God has blessed you with. They will teach you to notice others, to see their need, to realize that everyone has a story, and that a little kindness goes a long way. Don't miss this opportunity to be privileged to have had your heart touched by the people of a far away place called Africa, where life is hard, often very short, and seemingly hopeless. It is a place where God is very much at work.

Of course you have questions. And for many of those questions the answers are only a click away. If you don't find the answers your looking for on our Frequently Asked Questions page feel free to contact us by email with you specific questions. We're here to serve you and make a short-term missions experience in Kenya simple, effective, and relational.
What will we be doing?
Helping out Huduma Church which offers education to hundreds of children, free medical clinics to residents of the slums, job training, micro-enterprise loans to start businesses, and leadership training courses to develop strong Christian leaders.

You help out by lending a hand, helping construct buildings, helping to teach and/or assisting with VBS style programs.
When can we go?
Contact us to schedule a trip with your group.
How much does the trip cost?
Contact us for a custom quote based on your team.
Do I need a passport or visa?
YES! To travel abroad to any country outside of the United States you now need to have a passport. A visa is currently required for US Citizens to enter Kenya. These visas cost $50 per person and are available at the airport in Kenya and can be purchased there.
How long is this trip?
Generally our trips are 7-8 days, though teams can always choose to either extend or shorten their length of stay.
Where is Kenya?
Located in East Africa, Kenya is bordered by Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, the Sudan to the north and the Indian Ocean to the east.
What's included in the cost?
Everything you'll need once you get to Kenya: food, lodging, ground transportation, drinking water, one day safari at either Lake Nakuru National Park or Amboseli National Park, and even supplemental health insurance!
What's not included in the cost?
Airfare and/or ground transportation, passport, visa, spending money, offering at church services, and/or ministry or project related expenses.
Where will we be staying?
Your team will be staying at the Methodist Guest House located just outside the city limits of Nairobi. This guest house is very much like any hotel you have stayed at in that each room has two twin beds, a private bath, and all meals will be in Guest House dining room. For more information on this guest house please visit their website.
Is it safe?
Yes. We take extra precautions and lay down strict ground rules to ensure safety. Crime occurs in Nairobi just like every other city in the World, but it is considered a safe place to visit. The guest house is a secure facility with 24 hour security personnel.
What about bugs, snakes, and other poisonous creatures?
Kenya has its share of these animals, as does every tropical country on earth. The chance of seeing anything dangerous is very, very slim (except when driving outside the city or while on safari, and you'll want to see them then).
Who can go on this Mission's trip?
Anyone you want to bring. We typically look for teams of 5 to 20 people. Simply Missions is different from other short-term mission agencies in that we want to work alongside you as a leader in developing both your skills and your team. We welcome you to include families with children, junior high, high school and college students, and adults of any age!
How do airline tickets work?
We have arrangements with a couple of different travel agencies that specialize in group travel. Also, we can put you into direct contact with most airlines which offer a discounted rate for groups of 10 or more.
Simply Missions is a division of Global Outreach Development, Inc.
